A respite for visitors in the tumult of existence
The Roste Muis® is a respite for visitors in the tumult of existence. Situated among the fields of flat land and bordering the most beautiful natural areas of the polders, this pub has everything one’s heart could desire. As a restaurant, it is recommended because of the eel dishes and the other suggestions and regional dishes tailored to the seasons, selected with care. The excellent and full range of eel dishes make the Roste Muis one of the best eel houses in the Creekside area.
Just as you can – especially in winter – spot wild geese, black-backed gulls and, in summer, harriers with some ease, it will not escape your notice that the Roste Muis is a draw for visitors in search of rugged beauty and the tranquility of the countryside. It has been that way for centuries. With the quaint little church of St. John the Baptist as a place of pilgrimage as one of the more mystical attractions just a stone’s throw from the Roste Muis. Nearby are Boerekreek, Oudemanskreek and Oostpolderkreek.
The Roste Muis is a place where it is cozy to stay. With some imagination, you can imagine what it must have always been like to live in the polders. In times of prosperity this was of course accompanied by wine, eel, game and other dishes typical of the region. Because of the proximity to the sea (especially in the past), the region was always well supplied. The author of the epic Van de Vos Reynaert was probably well acquainted with the region. Reynaert visits the region several times in the epic.
Open from noon, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
